Team Expansions and Current Challenge

We've received many questions over the past few days about the possibility of adding B teams to the Brant system, largely due to the high number of players attending tryouts across various age groups. While we understand the demand, it's important to know that this process is more complex than simply adding new teams.
One of the biggest challenges is ice time. Last season, we received feedback from parents regarding inconvenient practice times. Coaches have asked us to address this issue for the upcoming season. Additionally, when teams participated in tournaments or had holidays, they often lost practice time with no available slots for make-up sessions. Addressing these concerns is a top priority, and Brant – along with related organizations – is working to obtain additional ice times and find solutions to help resolve this.
Another key issue is that we cannot simply add new teams at will. Scheduling both home and away games becomes significantly more complicated when teams are added midstream. Earlier this year, we submitted a request to form potential B teams, but it was not approved by OMHA. There is also the component of how adding more BB teams affects the local league and its overall structure and balance.
That said, Brant has been in communication with the OMHA, sharing both the current challenges and concerns raised by parents about young players not having a competitive league to participate in. We’re continuing to work through this process, and as soon as we receive more information, we will share it with you.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
