U10B and U12B Teams
Brant County Minor Hockey Association Families,
We wanted to provide an important update regarding the
proposed addition of U10B and U12B rep teams for the upcoming season.
Earlier this year, we shared with our membership that our association had received approval from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) to proceed with adding these additional B-level teams. Based on that approval, and with the best of intentions, we communicated this information to families in January.
Since that time, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) has advised that they are not approving the addition of any new rep-level teams at this time, due to the current province-wide freeze related to player movement and open borders in Ontario. This position is outlined in their publicly available communications.
Following this decision, our Board made every effort to appeal on behalf of our families and athletes, advocating for the inclusion of the U10B and U12B teams. Unfortunately, the OHF has confirmed that they are not willing to reconsider, and as a result, we are not permitted to field U10B and U12B rep teams this season.
We fully recognize and sincerely regret the disappointment and frustration this news will cause. We also acknowledge that our earlier communication raised expectations, and we take responsibility for sharing that information before all governing approvals were finalized. This was never our intention, and we truly apologize for the impact this has on our families.
Please know that this decision is not reflective of a lack of support or commitment to player development within our association. We remain dedicated to providing the best possible hockey experience for all players and will continue to explore opportunities within the guidelines set by our governing bodies.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support as we navigate a challenging and evolving landscape. Should there be any changes or updates from the OHF, we will communicate them promptly.
