To all the athletes and families taking part in this year’s U13A Brant Battalion Selection Process:
I am eager and excited to take on this role, and I look forward to leading our U13 group.
It is my belief that the core of a good team starts with the love for the game of hockey. This sport has been a passion of mine throughout my life; as a player, spectator and coach. I hope to share that passion with our team.
As a coaching staff, it is essential to cultivate a positive atmosphere, while relying on open communication between Coaches, Team Staff, Athletes and Families to ensure everyone is moving in the same direction, towards a common goal.
I also believe that development extends beyond the rink itself. Planning activities away from the rink will allow the team to bond and build chemistry, while instilling leadership, camaraderie and conditioning into the fabric of our team.
Successes cannot only be measured by the in-game results, but the progress made along the way; as a team and individual athletes.
I am optimistic that at the end of the season this team will walk away as better hockey players and individuals. The baseline expectations I have for our team is based on the “ACE” philosophy, which is 1) Attitude 2) Commitment and 3) Effort. Regardless of your skill level or experience, these are things that are always in control by each athlete.
Throughout the initial selection process, evaluators will be looking for the following:
-Skating
-Making/Receiving passes
